On Will and Discipline

Regardless of our goals in training, whether for better health, self-defense, or competition, we always need the will to attain our desired results. "Will" is often defined as internal persistence or determination, especially in the face of obstacles. And in fighting, obstacles will always come your way. We train to prepare ourselves for those obstacles and find new strength to apply our will outside of training.

"Discipline" is the committed and consistent application of will, and it can also mean a field of study. When we pursue something that makes us happy or accomplished, we will commit to it even when we are discouraged by ourselves or others. The challenge is finding and sticking to a worthwhile discipline that gives more than it takes away.

You can forge a healthy relationship with will and discipline regarding any skill set. No matter what it is, pursue skill in the right place and with the right people. These two factors make it easier for you to do what you love for a lifetime.
