Local Lineage
The history of Muay Thai in Canada began in the late 1980s when Ajahn Suchart Yodkerepaupri, (“Ajahn” is the title for master of Muay Thai) immigrated from Thailand and opened Canada’s first Muay Thai school, Siam No. 1, in Toronto. Through Ajahn Suchart, Siam No.1 became the center of Muay Thai in Canada, producing world-champion fighters and instructors, many of whom have opened their schools within and outside the country. Ajahn Suchart's mission is to share and preserve traditional Muay Thai across Canada and the globe.
Under Ajahn Suchart, Kru Yai Nick Bautista opened Brampton Muay Thai in 2011. Brampton Muay Thai focuses on providing all community members with the martial experience through traditional Muay Thai. This communal focus became the starting point for Movement Patterns: a hybrid gym-clinic that brings together doctors, therapists, and martial artists to share their practice of health and strength with the community.
With the teachings of Ajahn Suchart of Siam No. 1 and Kru Yai Nick Bautista of Brampton Muay Thai, I created Queens Muay Thai in 2019 as Brampton’s first female-only traditional Muay Thai program. It is my vision to establish an empowering martial arts community that contributes to the health and safety of all women and girls.
